Top Tips to Extend Your Laptop Battery Life toshiba satellite a85 battery

You seasoned techies are no doubt thinking, "Another article on how to get more life from your laptop battery. Big deal. I already know how to do that." Well, Mr. or Ms. Techie, I scoff at your hubris. There's still plenty to learn when it comes to getting more juice from a charge and extending your battery's overall life.

So, yes, toshiba pabas067 battery there are tips that most of us know:

   1. Dim your screen.
   2. Minimize background processes.
   3. Don't use the CD/DVD drive.
   4. Disable your wireless antenna when not in use.

But there's still a lot you may not know about battery technology and the things that both help and hinder your laptop's juicebox.

Getting More Minutes per Charge

You can fiddle with background processes and other software settings all you want, but your hardware is the biggest factor in battery life, according to PC Mag's lead analyst for laptops, Cisco Cheng. In fact, software such as power-management utilities can help minimize the impact internal components have on battery longevity. Knowing this can affect your buying decision if you're looking for a new laptop (see the "Picking a Laptop for Maximum Battery Life" section below) or help you get the most out of the trusty laptop you've got. Here are a few ways to optimize hardware for maximum battery output.

   1. Turn off ports. Disabling unused ports and components, such as VGA, Ethernet, PCMCIA, USB, and yes, your wireless, toshiba pa3536u battery too. You can do this through the Device Manager or by configuring a separate hardware profile (see next step).
   2. Create Power-Saving Hardware Profiles. Configure your laptop for the various scenarios in which you use it (on a plane, at the coffee shop, at the office, and so on). You can do this through the Hardware Profiles menu by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting Preferences or by using a freeware utility such as SparkleXP (for Windows XP users).
   3. Configure your display to turn off when not in use. This is different from just using a screensaver, because in many cases a screensaver still requires the display's backlight to be on. You can set the interval to turn the display off in Windows' Power Options—found in the Control Panel.

Extending the Overall Life

The easiest way to give your battery an early death is to damage it. And the two most common causes of damage are from overheating and overloading. Here's how you prevent overheating:

   1. Use a cooling pad when using a notebook computer on your lap.
   2. Avoid propping your laptop on a pillow, blanket, or other soft surface that can heat up.
   3. Clean your desk. It sounds strange, but if you have a dusty, dirty desk, that dust will get into the vents and clog the cooling fan. Once the dust is inside your laptop, it is much harder to remove. You can try blasting it out with canned air, but you run the risk of damaging internal components. You can also remove the vent and clean out the grit, but remember that taking apart your laptop can void the warranty. So clean your desk at least once a week, if not daily.
   4. Never store your laptop in a place where the air temperature exceeds 80 degrees Fahrenheit, such as a hot car or an outdoor patio.
   5. Consider taking your battery out when using your laptop plugged into AC power. Just make sure to keep the contacts clean. If you need to clean them, use rubbing alcohol.
   6. For lithium ion batteries, you do not need to discharge them fully and recharge constantly. Since they don't have the same "memory" as older nickel-metal hydride batteries, it is actually better to discharge a lithium ion only partially before recharging. You need to do a full discharge only about every 30 charges.

Overloading a battery occurs when you use an AC adapter that has a higher wattage than that specified on the laptop (and battery), or if the circuitry of the laptop consistently overcharges the battery. If you're using a replacement or spare adapter, make sure the wattage matches your laptop's within the specified voltage range. In the worst-case scenario, overloading can also damage your motherboard.

Picking a Laptop for Maximum Battery Life

If you're in the market for a new laptop, there are features and components you should consider to get the most mileage from the system's battery.

   1. An ultra-low-voltage processor, such as the Intel Penryn or one from VIA's line of ULV processors.
   2. A solid-state storage drive, which requires less power and, since there are no spinning parts, will suffer less wear and tear than a traditional hard drive.
   3. An LED display. Although pricey, LEDs use much less power than LCD.
   4. A smaller screen. A smaller screen means a smaller backlight, which will also save on battery drain.

According to Andrew Bradner, product line manager for APC, all lithium ion batteries are not created equal. The proof is in the pudding, or in this case the chemistry. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to discern if the battery you're buying was manufactured in a top-notch facility using high-quality materials. And making that call is not as easy as assuming your laptop manufacturer's battery will be of better quality than a battery from a third-party vendor. But you can stick to a couple of key guidelines.

   1. Don't skimp on your battery. If you choose the lowest-cost battery you'll probably get a battery that degrades quickly, and you'll end up buying a replacement too soon anyway. So spend the money now to save expense and frustration down the road.
   2. Don't buy an expired battery. A good indicator of a battery's performance is how far into its product life it is, whether it's used or new. If possible, look at the bottom of the battery and find the manufacture date.

7 ways to make your laptop battery last longer
With the latest portable PCs, working on the move has never been easier, but laptops are still slaves to the National Grid. You can do practically anything on a modern laptop, but their advanced features drain battery life to the extent that you can only get a couple of hours out of your laptop before it turns up its toes. While battery life is a chief cause of mobile moans, dell latitude d610 battery it's possible to get significant improvements by simple good practice and a few software tweaks. To help you get the most from your laptop battery, here are seven easy ways to make it last longer.1. Dim your screenThe screen is one of the most power-hungry parts of the laptop. It takes serious amounts of battery power to keep your display looking clear and bright. Saving this power is simply a question of turning the brightness down. The screen brightness button is usually located as a second function of one of the F keys, and is represented by a little sun symbol with up and down icons. To use it, just hold down the correct function key and then choose up or down.2. Change power settingsWindows Vista comes with some great power features, which enable you to eke out the best performance when you're plugged dell vostro 1200 battery into the mains, and optimise battery life when on the move. Type power options into the Start Search box and choose Power saver from the list. The Windows Mobility Center has more methods for saving battery life. These include settings for powering off the monitor and kicking into sleep mode more quickly.3. Switch off Wi-FiOne of the biggest battery sappers is the wireless networking capabilities built into most laptops. Wi-Fi drains the battery by constantly drawing power from the battery and, when not connected, looking for networks. When you're using your laptop away from the grid, the likelihood is you're away from wireless networks, so you can turn this device off. Many laptops have a function button that enables you to turn off the wireless adaptor manually to save yourself the unnecessary waste, but older laptops often don't have this. If this is the case, just go to the Control Panel, access the Network Connections menu and disable your wireless connection manually.4. Turn off peripheralsUsing USB peripherals can put a big drain on your system, because your motherboard has to power them, so unplugging everything dell inspiron 7000 battery saves juice. USB sticks, mice and webcams are common offenders, so copy all your information across and eject your devices as soon as possible, and put up with laptop track pads over your USB mouse. Many laptops have function buttons to turn off the built-in webcam, which drains the battery if given the chance.5. Eject your disc drivesHaving a disc spinning in the drive is a huge drain on resources, and many programs constantly do this. Simply eject your discs before you switch to battery power to gain vital extra minutes from your working day.6. Invest in some hardwareGood practice can go some way to extending your battery life, but if you need to use your laptop throughout your working day, you're going to need some help. Most laptops come with a six-cell battery, but many manufacturers offer eight- or even 12-cell optional upgrades, which can double your power. The alternative to expensive laptop batteries are products such as the Philips Portable Power Pack, dell inspiron 7500 battery which gives you valuable extra hours for all your devices. The Philips is a compact battery unit that has adaptors for most laptops and mobile phones, which is portable enough to be placed in a bag and has enough capacity to double the length of your charge.7. Disable featuresWindows Vista has some handy built-in features, but many put demands on your system that are unnecessary when working on the move. Take the simple measure of turning off Windows Aero and the Windows Sidebar when you're on the move to make your laptop more efficient.

financial firm has finally accepted an offer from Panasonic to acquire
Goldman’s stake in the company. Goldman will now join Sanyo’s other
major shareholders, Daiwa Securities SMBC and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking,
in relinquishing control of Sanyo and allowing Panasonic to create an
electronics giant.
Panasonic announced their intentions to acquire
Sanyo last month but had to revise offers made to Goldman in order to
complete the deal. Daiwa and Sumitomo initially accepted the offer from
Panasonic and are expected to go along with the final deal to be made
official by both Panasonic and Sanyo on December 26th.
Goldman
finally accepted an offer from Panasonic estimated to be 131 yen per
share ($1.47) although that figure is still considered to be below
Sanyo’s market price. The final offer price for the acquisition is
expected to be near 560 billion yen, or $6.36 billion with a tender
offer as early as February 2009. Panasonic is interested in acquiring
anywhere from 50% to all of Sanyo’s shares.
The merger will create
a consumer electronics giant that will be able to compete globally with
other leading electronics and battery companies in China and South
Korea. Panasonic, which manufactures everything from televisions to
Blu-ray disc players, is interested in capitalizing on Sanyo’s industry
leading “green” technology including solar panels and rechargeable
batteries. The technology and patents owned by Sanyo will allow
Panasonic to expand their reach into fields previosuly dominated by
Sanyo and perhaps signal a shift in car manufacturing to include
lithium-ion batteries and other renewable energy sources.
dell inspiron 600m battery

dell latitude d510 battery

dell latitude d600 battery
